From the Mactan-Cebu International Airport:
You can take a cab to go to the South bus terminal.  The estimated fare is 250 PHP – 350 PHP, depending on traffic.  Or you can take it straight to Barangay ("Brgy" for short) Tan-awan in Oslob, but we try for the cheapest travel method, which is by bus.

Alternatively, if you're familiar with Uber and/or Lyft, then you can download and use the mobile app, Grab, to book your transportation.

Travel time from Airport to South Bus Terminal: 1 hour (depending on traffic)

From Cebu City:
Take a cab or jeepney to South Bus Terminal which is a few meters away from Elizabeth Mall.  The terminal is clean and organized.  Buy your ticket at the counter and make sure to read the board signs placed in front of the windshield mirror before hopping inside the bus.

From the South bus terminal: take the Ceres Bus

Buses Operate from 1 AM – 9 PM

Bus Fare: 150 PHP – 180 PHP

Crazy Early Birds

Be there as early as possible to avoid the crowd and be the first to see them during their feeding time.  We were at the terminal as early as 2 AM to catch the earliest bus.  It will be a long, cold, and windy ride ahead of you; the earliest bus trips are not air-conditioned so better keep the window down and try to get some sleep. Don't forget to inform the ticket collector — commonly known as 'konduktor' — where you're heading.  He's the one who collects the ticket fare and knows the road.

As we drove along the road, it was like we were at a rock concert, banging our heads together and swaying them from left to right as we drifted off to dreamland.  We looked ridiculously tired and I had even planned to film my friends sleeping if only I wasn't so preoccupied with getting some sleep too.  However, I couldn't resist the twilight zone and eventually forgot about it.

There are billboard signs placed near the road for the Butanding briefing area.  However, if you plan to be as early as 6 in the morning like us, then it's more realistic and responsible to inform the 'konduktor' to not miss the stop point.

As I was saying we were busy sleeping and didn't notice that we were almost to our stop, maybe less than 50 minutes away.  Good thing we informed the 'konduktor' ahead of time, and what perfect timing because another group was also heading to the same destination.

Foreigner Diving Rates: 4,500 - 9,000 PHP

Back to the City or Sidetrip

Two options:
1. If you're in a hurry or need to catch your flight or a boat ride, then better get back to the city early as the traffic is unpredictable.  Just wait for the Ceres Bus to pass by the road and make sure before hopping in that it has the sign going back to Cebu City.

2. Check out Tumalog Waterfalls.  There are parked motorcycles near the briefing area.  These guys will take you there.  Entrance Fee: 20 PHP

If you still have ample time then you can drop by Our Lady of Immaculate Concepcion Church, one of the oldest churches in Cebu.

This was one of the best experiences in my life and one that would surely be on everyone's checklist after trying it.  I would do this again if I could go back to Oslob.  Take a chance to swim with the whale sharks; it's not every day that you get to be with these lovely creatures.

I've always thought that my base jumping Bungee experience in Bohol would remain on top of my list of the best extreme adventures of my life, but I was wrong and I couldn't believe it.  I've always been a fan of aerodynamics; I crave that adrenaline rush and a beggar for life-threatening activities.  The desire to feel the intensity of falling and the mind-blowing, heart-jumping-out-of-your-chest feeling feels so exhilarating.  You can't just get enough of it.

Have fun and be safe  ^__^

Do you want more adventure?
If you still have one more day to spare why not go to Sumilon Island and have a relaxing weekend by the beach.

Where am I going next?
My next adventure is to check out a UNESCO World Heritage, The Chocolate Hills of Bohol.

    1. Hey Zael!

Let me just say that's a cool name!

We did not get any package for this trip because you don't have to especially if you're from Cebu or not. Just make sure to pack your bags and be at the terminal as early as you can. The first bus leaves around 3pm, call the operator to make sure. We took that ride and had our whale shark watching before 7am. It's better to be there when only a few tourist have just arrived. There are few stalls around the area selling a bit pricy foods , so with less than a 100 you can already have a full meal, not bad. That's it! Bus fare (back in forth) :300+ and snorkeling 500.

You will actually have ample of time after the activity so you can check out Tumalog falls. Click on the link above.

Here you go! I hope you have a blast with the Gentle Giants.

    2. Hi there,
I'm just asking the same question, how can you do snorkelling with the sharks just for 1000peso? :)

  2. Hi,
Can I ask what's the exact name of the resort you've been to? I think there are a lot and prices differ from one another. Like Jael said there's packages for this tour but really expensive & with what you guys had... wow cheaper from the others.

    1. We didn't avail any packages. We just headed there and pay the amount for the activity. If you're planning to stay overnight then I guess it would be better if you take the resorts package.

    2. No were not planning to stay overnight as we already booked our hotel in the city. thank you for your response. hope we could have the chance to go there with my three kids & find that cheaper rate for the whale shark watching.

    3. I don't exactly know the name of the place but we just informed the driver and the ticket collector to drop us off at the Whale Shark activity place. I think its the official place for the activity because municipal employees were the ones who assisted us. Anyways God bless your trip and thank you for dropping by in my blog post.

    1. Hello Rio,

I'm really not sure about the nearest accommodation so I tried searching in google and found La Gloria Residence Inn nearby the terminal, maybe you can try to send them an email.

The bus usually leaves every 30 minutes. It is advisable to be in the terminal as early as possible to avoid the traffic. Just to double check the bus timing here's their phone number: Cebu City: (032) 345-8650.

      Thank you for dropping by.

  18. Hi Neoxclinke,

What I like most about Oslob is that they are charging less for locals than foreigners. I think our country need to promote this principle to encourage local tourism more. It's not a good thing if foreigners have enjoyed our natural resources while most Filipinos haven't.

Nevertheless we have enjoyed Oslob and swimming with the Tukis, truly a once in a lifetime experience (Not to mention scary too). We have our own adventure like you and if you may permit sharing my experience here:

    http://mattdpinoytraveller.blogspot.com/2014/10/swimming-with-tukis-butanding-at-oslob.html

I'm planning to go back there next year to get better shots and hopefully meet same minded travelers like you. Maybe we can travel together next time.

And if it's okay with you, I'd like to add your blog on my followed list.

    Thank you and more power.

  19. Hi,

very cool and informative post for oslob experience i've ever read so far. I'm planning to visit Oslob this month ,if you don't mind may i ask few things? :P

-since I'm traveling solo, do they arrange boat to include a solo guest to another boat or i would have to rent my own boat?
-do boatman assist guest in swimming/snorkeling? i want to have an underwater picture with the gentle giants but im not a good swimmer :( hehe

Thank you in Advance! hope to read more of your posts :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hey,

I think going solo will not be a problem. A lot of tourist visits the spot to see the whale sharks everyday so the organizers around can slot you in whichever boat is available.

The boat guides will feed the whale sharks to keep them around so everyone can swim a few meters away from them. It's an overwhelming feeling of seeing them up close so make sure to pay for the snorkeling fees. Now regarding about the underwater camera they're offering rentals worth 500 pesos, just make sure to bring your own memory card with you. Just be friendly and beg someone with a smile to take your picture underwater.

Have fun and be safe. Respect the gentle giants.

      Thanks for dropping by.

    1. The Oslob Whale Watching are now on its operation again.....amid of the pandemic situation they cater tourist who would like to spend their vacation and enjoy our whale watching activity here in Oslob Cebu. The Rate is 500 pesos for both foreigner and local tourist and that 500 pesos is a flat rate either swimming (below the boat) or watching (above the boat)....and also safety protocols are strictly observed.
